SALIGE ER DE SOM SITTER

A few years ago, I was fortunate enough to discover the extraordinary film Songs from the Second Floor by Roy Andersson. It moved me profoundly, and one moment in particular stayed with me: the scene in which a father visits his son in a psychiatric hospital, where the young man has suddenly been driven mad by writing poetry. In this scene, the line “Blessed is the one who sits” is spoken, lingering in the air like a quiet revelation.

Shortly thereafter, I came across an article in a literary magazine about the director and his work, and I was surprised to learn that the film had been inspired by the poem Traspié de dos estrellas by the Peruvian poet César Vallejo, where this very line appears. This discovery drew me into Vallejo’s poetry, and after a period of reflection and reading, the idea emerged to create visual poems with chairs—an homage to the director, the poet, and the boy who went mad in the pursuit of poetry.
